Landscape: From Dark to Light

An exhibition of new paintings

Lincolnshire artist Sarah Watson will be exhibiting her second one-woman show in Grantham, at the Guildhall Arts Centre from 27 September – 10 October. It’s been four years since her debut in her home town, and a lot has happened since then: she has been exhibiting at the prestigious Fletcher Gate Art Gallery in Nottingham and the newer Gallery6 in Newark; she has featured on the Sky Arts Landscape Artist Of The Year, and been accepted for membership of the exclusive Lincolnshire Artists’ Society who used one of her paintings as the poster for this year’s Art In The Barn group show at Doddington Hall.

 

This exhibition will primarily feature new, emotionally charged oil paintings, as well some small, jewel-like watercolours, dramatic charcoal drawings and ink paintings. Her uniquely expressive semi-abstract landscapes will feature their signature vibrant colours, especially in her Lincolnshire paintings. However, a turn in life events has informed an even more dramatic and deeply personal approach to her mark marking and palette. Recent trips to the rain-swept Yorkshire Dales and Peak District in particular have brought about a more brooding and atmospheric touch to her painting.

The exhibition takes place in the Newton Room at the Guildhall Arts Centre and entry is free. The Guildhall Arts Centre is open daily from 9.30am – 4.30pm and during evening showtimes. Visitors are advised to call in advance to ensure the exhibition room is open to the public, on 01476 406158.
