This summer, we brought Nature Maker Days to Bourne and Market Deeping – two free family-friendly events packed with creative, hands-on activities designed to spark imagination, connection, and play.
Held in the heart of the town at the Corn Exchange, the Bourne Nature Maker Day welcomed families for a mix of free drop-in sessions alongside a special paid workshop with Animal Club. Children and their grown-ups got stuck into making, exploring, and creating – with many families staying for several hours to enjoy everything on offer.
Feedback highlighted how valuable these kinds of local activities are, with one parent sharing:
“It would be good to have more activities in Bourne. I don’t drive, and the venue is within walking distance for most of the town. There isn’t much available for mums to keep their children entertained.”
Families appreciated the mix of free and paid activities, and many noted how engaged their children were throughout – without the distraction of phones. Customers also shared how important printed marketing materials were for reaching them, with one person saying:
“Please continue to produce printed materials as I’m not on social media.”
Others expressed gratitude for the event, highlighting how smaller-scale days like this are especially beneficial for children with additional needs, or for grandparents looking for affordable activities with their grandchildren.
Two days later, the fun continued in Market Deeping with an even wider range of activities, including popular outdoor sessions and hands-on woodwork workshops led by Outwood CIC. Families loved the chance for children to try something different – one parent commented that children rarely get the opportunity to use hammers and nails in a safe, creative environment.
The event also sparked conversations about the lack of arts-based opportunities for young people locally, reinforcing how valuable these days are for the community. Customers mainly heard about the event through social media and the local library’s newsletter, with many people praising the day.
Both events were well attended, with a steady flow of families throughout the day. Many participants commented on how refreshing it was to have accessible, creative activities close to home, with some families even choosing to attend both days.
The Nature Maker Days showed how much local families value affordable, high-quality arts and cultural experiences – and how important it is to make them available within easy reach of the communities we serve.
