Meera Maharaj flute
James Girling guitar
Postcards from Around the World
Music from the US, France, Spain and Romania by Chick Corea, Piazzolla, Messiaen, de Falla, Bartok Continuing the gypsy and folk inspirations of the two previous programmes, Meera Maharah and James Girling present a whistle-stop international tour with music written for flute and guitar as well as their own arrangements. Prize-winning graduates of the Royal Northern College of Music, Meera and James play in a wide variety of ensembles as well as performing as a duo at festivals and in concert series up and down the country. The tower and spire of St Andrew’s, curiously sited in place of a south transept, dates from 1738. The windows and the urns at each corner of the tower echo the style of neighbouring Grimsthorpe Castle. Although much restored, the interior still holds evidence of its Norman and Early English foundation in its pillars with stiff-leaf capitals
