Festive Crafts was our first foray in to online craft and stitch workshops and the good news is that we have been asked to do some more. So here it is…our winter programme of 1-hour stitch sessions which starts on January 23rd 2021. We are offering a series of Quick Stitch sessions on Saturday morning run by Jane Schofield who is keen to help us all access our inner seamstress with a series of 4 small projects that can be completed in an hour as well as a 2-session introduction to patchworking with hexagons. It also feels good to be creative, green and thrifty - all at the same time - so creating gorgeous designs with old bits of fabric and wool that might be heading for the bin is the theme of this continuing collaboration with Stamford Arts Centre. Felt Heart Garlands – 23 Jan So simple. So beautiful. So on-trend. Using small pieces of felt (maybe left over from other makes…) these gorgeous garlands only require basic sewing skills (running stitch). You will need some card (to make a template), felt, needle, thread, pencil and scissors. Oh..and a twig to hang them on. Kilt Pin Brooches - 30 Jan A lovely gift… or brooch or… decoration for a bag. For those of you who would like to sew on a few buttons for added decoration, we will do that first, then sew on strips of ribbon and offcuts of fabric. You will need a kilt (or large safety pin), small piece of felt, bits of ribbon, long/thin scraps of fabric, small buttons, needle, thread, scissors. Stitch a Message – 6 Feb A small piece of old blanket, a message stamped on a piece of plain fabric, a bit of ribbon and maybe a button. They come together to make something beautiful. A good starter project for creating larger fabric collages. You will also need a needle, thread and scissors. Felt necklace – 13 Feb What could be simpler – a few narrow strips of felt, a few beads and some strong thread that come together to make a necklace. These make lovely, thoughtful (and very thrifty gifts). We will also explore other ways of making jewellery with fabric and felt. You will need long, narrow strips of felt, scraps of fabric, small buttons, needle, embroidery thread, polyester thread, scissors. Hexagon workshop – 27 Feb and 13 March For those of you who would like to explore patchworking by hand, the hexagon lends itself to a variety of small projects. Join them together to make a book mark or stitch them on to other fabrics for decoration. It can be a little fiddly to start with but the end results will be worth it and we will be able to take a little more time as this make runs over 2 Saturday mornings. You will need small pieces of lightweight coloured/patterned cotton fabric, medium size piece of plain fabric, some old envelopes, needle, thread, pen/pencil and scissors. Please note …Kits can be supplied You may well have things to hand for the workshops but should you want to purchase a kit (£2.50; excludes scissors) please email Jane (jane@janeschofield.co.uk) to arrange for payment and collection/delivery.
