The South make their first ever appearance at Grantham Meres Leisure Centre this coming May with a fantastic evening of the classic greatest hits of The Beautiful South.
Featuring former Beautiful South singer Alison Wheeler, and other former members of the Beautiful South, The South are a truly impressive nine-piece band in their own right, who play to packed audiences across the UK.
When the great British pop institution, The Beautiful South split in 2007, some members of the band didn’t feel ready to hang up their microphones or instruments just yet – and The South were born.
Two years later, singer Alison Wheeler, alongside lifelong members Damon Butcher (keys), Gaz Birtles (sax) and Tony Robinson (trumpet), came out of retirement and The South embarked on a journey to establish themselves are a band as they became increasingly popular live performers.
And so, The South embarked on their journey, celebrating the fantastic Beautiful South legacy and great songs of their own and the band continues performing the classic songs to ever increasing packed attendances.
Now fronted by Gaz Birtles to take centre stage and male vocal duties, alongside Alison Wheeler, The South have a wealth of outstanding talent in their ranks, including new sax player Su Robinson, who has performed with such legends as Prince Buster, The Specials’ Horace Panters band and Uptown Ska Collective.
Long time trumpet replacement for Tony Robinson, Gareth John, is now established as a permanent fixture. His past glories include working alongside members of the Happy Mondays, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, The Specials and Vintage Trouble.
The South are Alison Wheeler (Vocals), Gaz Birtles (Vocals), Phil Barton (Guitars), Steve Nutter (Bass), Dave Anderson (Drums), Karl Brown (Percussion), Gareth John (Trumpet/Vocals), Su Robinson (Sax) and Andy Price (Keyboards).
Let’s Carry On… Regardless!
All the instantly memorable Beautiful South hits will be showcased, including “Rotterdam (Or Anywhere)”, “Perfect 10”, “A Little Time”, “One Last Love Song”, “Song For Whoever”, “Old Red Eyes Is Back” and “Don`t Marry Her”.
