To mark the start of summer and a collective next step away from the pandemic, SKDC is running five free family arts days to celebrate five of the district’s biggest and most beautiful villages!

With performers popping up around the village and two art projects that you can have a go at, the Arts Around the Villages days will aim to raise everyone’s spirits and make people smile. All the activities will be family-friendly but due to ongoing restrictions will of course require social distancing at all times.

‘FIVE VILLAGES’ COMMUNITY SCULPTURES

In the run up to each day, residents of each village can download a specially made template that reflects aspects of their village. Each template is then designed and coloured in and folded into a 3D shape which participants bring along at any point during the day itself. People will then be able to watch and chat to the artist who will be assembling all the artworks into a single sculpture which will stay in the village for a few weeks. For those without the internet or a printer, hard copies of the templates can be collected before the day from the Co-op in each village.

All templates and project information are available here https://lumoworkshop.com/fivevillages

WISH YOU WERE HERE POSTCARDS

On the day of the event local residents will be able to come and collect a blank postcard from a gazebo in the centre of each village. Participants then take them away and design and write a postcard to a friend or family member to celebrate their village in some way. Participants will then be asked to return their completed postcards to the gazebo before 3pm and post them (for free!) in our special letter box.

PERFORMANCE MOMENTS

Throughout the day a series of performers (musicians, dancers, actors) will pop up at unexpected places around each village to entertain whoever happens to be around at that time. Each performance moment will last a maximum of 15 minutes before the performers pack up, disappear and then reappear somewhere else!
