Margaret Thatcher, Elizabeth II and Winnie the Pooh.
Gyles Brandreth celebrates three unique British icons:
Gyles Brandreth, author, broadcaster, podcaster, former Member of Parliament and Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, worked for a new Margaret Thatcher, (who was born 100 years ago on 13th October 1925) from the 1970s until the time of her death in 2013 As well as celebrating her remarkable achievements, Gyles is going to give a portrait of a most unusual woman, and will be telling some stories about the Iron Lady you may not have heard before.
Also born a century ago was Elizabeth II. Gyles is the author of the Sunday Times number one best-selling biography Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, and will be telling the story about the relationship between The Queen and her first woman Prime Minister.
And surprisingly, there is a special connection between these two remarkable women and Winnie-the-Pooh. 2026 marks the centenary of Winnie the Pooh, one of the best-selling books of all time. Gyles knew the real Christopher Robin and his latest book, ‘Somewhere a Boy and a Bear’ is both an intimate and revealing biography of AA Milne and a fascinating exploration of childhood.
‘Gyles Brandreth has a touching access to the secrets of the human heart.’ The Times
‘Gyles’s book Breaking the Code : Westminster Diaries, gives a fascinating account of the fall of Margaret Thatcher. A wonderful book. A serious contribution to history, as well as funny and touching…How Politics genuinely is”. Dan Finkelstein The Times.
