The London-based Marsyas Trio—Australian flautist Helen Vidovich, Canadian cellist Valerie Welbanks, and Belarusian pianist Olga Stezhko—champions classical-to-contemporary works for flute, cello, and piano. Formed by Royal Academy of Music graduates, they explore themes of gender, society, and politics through commissions and historic repertoire. Recent highlights include performances at Kettle’s Yard, Aldeburgh’s Red House, and a Northern tour, plus the family show Three Little Mammoths with Janey Godley and Ed Balls. Their 2024 album Alternative Readings (Michael Finnissy) follows 2018’s suffrage-celebrating In the Theatre of Air (NMC). Active cross-art collaborators and educators, they partner with puppeteers, film-makers, and universities (Churchill College, Leeds). Named after the mythic satyr Marsyas, the trio embodies bold musical innovation.
