‘ONE WILD AND PRECIOUS LIFE' By Shani Wray-Jenkins

‘ONE WILD AND PRECIOUS LIFE' By Shani Wray-Jenkins

Shani Wray-Jenkins: artist.

Born and raised in Yorkshire, I moved to London to pursue a fashion design career which involved travel to exotic places all over the world. Meeting people and making amazing memories in every continent across the globe was both a privilege and a blast. It is also the source of constant inspiration for my paintings.

22 years ago I moved to a tiny village just south of Grantham and settled down to a life in the country.

I have always loved painting and have dreamed of being a professional artist since my teens. The breakthrough came during lockdown when I, like many others, found myself being furloughed from my job. This gave me the catalyst I needed to do the one thing that I’d longed to do - to paint every single day if I wanted to. And so I did, and have never looked back!

My exhibition is inspired by the amazing and the ordinary. The people I love, the places I’ve seen, the mad and the mundane, the flotsam and jetsam of a life lived to the full - and the desire to make the most of every single day.

It is summed up in the last line of a poem by Mary Oliver:

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
